“Our aim, as always, is to build the best.”
-Sandy Douglass-
Sandy made our motto in 1957 and we build the same quality boat that we did back then. We’ve never cut corners here at Flying Scot Inc, and we never will. Our boats are sound and hold up against the toughest conditions. Our customers have always written us the best sailboat reviews because of our quality and customer service. The Flying Scot family does not refer to just us here at the factory. It’s a Flying Scot Nation! Our roots are deep and our customers are like family. There is simply no better class, but don’t take our word for it. see what our other customers say below.
Me and my dad had so much fun. We were flying and it was so good I fell asleep. It was easy and fun to sail and the Flying Scot also has a motor and it is a 10/10
The Flying Scot is a great boat that meets so many diverse needs! First and foremost, it is well built. The builder has maintained a very high standard for over sixty years. Second, it is a fun boat to sail. The boat is so well balanced up wind it is easy to find that magical groove but off wind it is a blast especially in a breeze. This is a boat that appeals to beginners, those with years of sailing experience, day sailors and racers. The class is also great! Comprised of some of the nicest people you will meet! try one out, I am confident that you will like it!
Every time I go out on the water solo, I reflect on what a perfect match the FS is for that purpose. I can leave my home and less than an hour I'm sailing on the water. This time on the intercoastal in Saint Augustine at the lighthouse. Thanks for helping an older man really enjoy sailing ⛵️!
I don’t usually write reviews like this but this company, and product, are so outstanding that I felt compelled. One of the main reasons I decided to buy this particular boat is, as anyone who has ever sailed her knows, she’s a great boat. But the folks at Flying Scot are amazing. They have bent over backwards to accommodate me before, during, and after the sale. I had questions about rigging on my first outing, called them right from the lake, and got prompt and helpful answers. In fact, every time that I have called or emailed, I have gotten prompt and helpful answers. These people really know their stuff! So, in buying this boat, I felt that not only was I getting a great boat, but also the assistance and availability of this company full of great people. Thanks and I hope you keep giving great service for many years to come.
I bought a 13 year old factory re-conditioned boat. It is my first ever Flying Scot and my first ever racing boat. Tyler took me out for a training sail on nearby Deep Creek Lake. He was very helpful, and I learned a lot. I am happy to have bought a boat from a supportive manufacturer who backs up their product.
After 32 years of hard service in a 15 knot wind my lower gudgeon failed on a Sunday. I called the folks at Flying Scot first thing Monday morning. By noon they had my boat in the shop and by noon on Wednesday, less than 48 hours after the call, the boat had been professionally repaired and was back in the water. They saved my vacation! Well done!
I can not express how thrilled I am with Flying Scot! Their customer service throughout the entire process of buying a new boat was beyond extraordinary. Tyler went above and beyond to work with us to insure our every need was met. The boat is absolutely stunning and sails like a dream. We could not be happier!
The over half century legacy of a Flying Scot sailboat speaks for itself; that is probably why you are reading this review. This is not by accident. The real legacy is the experienced team/family making them in the western Maryland town of Deer Park.
They not only have a passion for sailing, but also emphasize with the customer point of view. Our experience could not have been better! Although standard offers are Racing and Recreational models, they are knowable, flexible, and sensitive to customer desires.
We wanted our FS to be family oriented, but not preclude performance and future racing. “Fun” was the word we used to describe many of our choices. Tyler Andrews was able to take his considerable experience and design a boat to match our general description: detune racing model rather than building up a recreational model. Even spent extra effort to find custom color we wanted for the hull.
Only one word describes our experience working with the whole professional Flying Scot team to launch our new sailboat (Free Spirit): FUN!
